St Barnabas, Darwen
St Barnabas’ benefice is now united with that of St Mary, Grimehills.
The parish of St Barnabas was formed out of St John’s parish in 1911 and included the mission church of St Mary, Grimehills. The church was erected in 1884 and designed by architects Paley and Austin of Lancaster at a cost of £1462 and is Gothic in character. It was built to provide seating for 350 people and is constructed in stone with a Westmorland slate roof. It was opened on the 7th August 1884. Its windows are square-headed. On the church is a bellcote with a pyramidal slated roof. The building was extended in 1939 and contains stained glass windows dating from 1963 by Shrigley and Hunt.
The church does not have a graveyard.
